This Week...

We will continue with our money unit in reading. Here is a list of this week's vocabulary words.

We will learn how to write the lowercase b and lowercase k in cursive.

Our grammar test will be on adjectives (describing words) this week. We will talk about comparative and superlative adjectives, too.

Here is a picture of this week's story, "The Go-Around Dollar." It is a great story. The children are going to love it.

Progress Reports

Mid-Nine Week Reports will be coming home on Wednesday. Please sign and return to school by Friday. Thanks!

Thank You, Decatur Elks Lodge

Today, two sweet men from the Decatur Elks Lodge came and distributed dictionaries to every third grade student. They explained to the boys and girls that these dictionaries belong to them. They can leave them here at school or take them home.

My students could not wait to put their names in their new dictionaries.

This Week's Agenda

We are focusing on the oo spelling this week. We are learning how this sound spelling has two sounds like in goo and foot. This is our Concept/Question board for this unit. We put up questions about money on our board today. I am encouraging each child to bring in something that has to do with money(magazine ads, drawings, etc.) to add to the concept side of our board. They have several weeks to do this. They will receive 4 credits for each item.
These are the cursive letters we will be learning this week: lowercase g and lowercase q.
Today we looked up the definitions to this week's vocabulary words. The definitions should be in your child's BEE book behind the reading tab.
Our story this week is "It's A Deal!" We will have a test on this story on Friday. Please reread nightly.

Happy Birthday, Hannah!

Today was Hannah's birthday. She pretended to have a crown on as we sang "Happy Birthday" to her.
Her mother brought yummy, homemade cupcakes for the class. Even Abby, the little girl she babysits, had to have a bite!

Hannah enjoyed her cupcake surprise! Thanks Mrs. Wheeler and Hannah for the special treat! Happy Birthday!

Way to go, WILL!

Will brought his medal to school for the class to see. He won this for his Reflection project. WOW!

Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon

Finally 26.2 miles! Here we are heading to the finish line! Here is the whole gang from Decatur that ran either the half marathon or the full marathon: Katherine Peters, Brad and Barbara Stepp, Paige Dorr, Heather and Dave Coon, Megan Miller, and Lisa Hamn.
Paige finished in 3 hours and 51 minutes. Barbara, Megan, and I finished in 4 hours and 17 minutes (4 minutes slower than my last marathon)!
We had skirts made for the memorable event. You would not believe the comments we received during the marathon from spectators and other runners. Even when we ran through the finish line, the announcer made a comment about our "dots"!
Here we are with our medals! It was a perfect day! The weather was great and the course was absolutely beautiful.
Now, just pray Mrs. Coon can move at school tomorrow. I am so sore!

Yipee for third grade! What a performance!! You did an outstanding job yesterday, and I thank each and everyone of you. I am so proud of you. I also wanted to thank Kim Parker and Barbara Albrecht for the wonderful backdrop. You two did an amazing job. It looked great. Also, thanks to Mr. Wheeler for posting and retiring the colors during both performances. He is always so willing to help. Mr. Wheeler is a trooper!!! I know I have said it before, but I have to say it again -- I LOVE MY CLASS!

Love,
Mrs. Coon

Dad is home!

Daddy traveled home today. Yipee! He is worn out, but glad to be back at home. He has to go back on Friday to have all the packing removed from his face, but as for now he is resting in his own bed! I will not be at school tomorrow because I am going to sit with him while my mom gets out for a little while.

Mrs. Landers will travel with them to the Princess Theater. They will do great! I promise I will try not be out again until after Thanksgiving. I also promise to do better with the blog. Sorry I have not taken any pictures lately. Next week I will be back on track!

See you Monday!

I will be back at school tomorrow. I cannot promise weekly progress reports or a newsletter, but I physically will be back in the classroom tomorrow. We are heading back to Birmingham today as soon as we get out of church. I am taking all my school stuff, but I cannot make any promises on getting to work on it. I have carried my school bag with me back and forth each day, but I have yet to touched it. Sorry!!!

I look forward to seeing the children in the morning. Please tell your child I miss them, and cannot wait to get a hug.

Thank You!

I just wanted to say thank you for all the prayers. Daddy did great! However, today has been pretty rough. He is in a lot of pain, and just does not feel good. He is still in ICU, so we only get to see him every couple of hours. I have had some trouble with the way my daddy looks. The first time I saw him, I had to leave the room because I thought I was going to pass out. Honestly, I barely made it out the room. I had to get a nurse to get me a chair so I could sit with my head between my legs. I felt so yucky! Daddy had no idea, he thought I was on the phone. I had to pull myself together and go tell him goodnight. Today has been better, but the nurse got me a stool to sit in the doorway. I finally told him, I do not do well with blood. I never knew I would react this way. It is just so hard to see your daddy that way.

I just got home so I could go Trick-or-Treating with the boys tonight. I have not seen them since Wednesday. David and I are heading back tomorrow just for the day. Then, I hope we can take the boys to see their Papa Sunday after church, but it all depends on how daddy feels (and looks). By the way, my church, First Baptist, has Gene Stallings coming to speak at Calhoun College at 9:00 this Sunday. You are invited. It will be awesome!!!!

I hope everyone has a fabulous Halloween! Please be safe and careful! I cannot wait to see the children on Monday. I miss them! Again, thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. I have the greatest class and parents. I love you all!

I Love My Daddy!

Last night we all spent the night at The Lodge at St. Vincent's Hospital with my dad. We had a wonderful evening all crammed (remember all adults) into a room about the size of my bathroom at home. We laughed and giggled until our stomach's ached. Daddy's spirits were good!
This picture was taken last night. Everything this morning moved fast. There was no down time before they rolled him off. It was hard giving daddy hugs and kisses because he was very emotional. We are just waiting and enjoying spending quality time with each other. Please continue to pray.

Thank you, Mr. Wheeler!

Hannah's sweet daddy came to school on Wednesday to carve a pumpkin with the boys and girls. There favorite part was the pumpkin guts! YUCK!
Everyone had a chance to help cut out our pumpkin's face.

Here Will is working on getting the lid off.

Hannah and the finished product!

Thanks so much for doing this with the class, Mr. Wheeler. You are the best!

He chose the perfect pumpkin for us!

Mock Elections at JHES

We tried to take a class picture in front of the booths, but the sun was too bright.
Here they are making sure they are registered voters. This is Brandon with the "I VOTED" stickers they received after voting.

Paige is placing her ballot in the box.

Preston let me pick in his polling booth.

I can't remember who this is? Anyway, it is a cute picture.

They did not announce the winner today!?! Hopefully, we will find out on the morning announcements! The children are anxious for the results!!!!
It was a great experience for my class. They did a great job!
