Women's Half Marathon

I traveled to Nashville Friday afternoon to prepare for a Women's Half Marathon. It was a really neat race since it was only women running it. However, it was the hardest race I have yet to run! There were so many hills (I might should say mountains). When I had to climb a hill at mile 12, I thought I might not finish. We all survived, though!! Even though it was a hard race, it was worth it because of all the gifts we got. Our medals had a charm that you put on a necklace or bracelet, the bags were reusable, and our bib numbers had our names on it.

Here is the crew that stayed together at the Renaissance Hotel in Nashville. This was the host hotel for the race.
The JHES GANG!

Here are our first timers! They did awesome!

Jennifer Blevins and I before the race.

The post race atmosphere was like a wedding reception. There was table cloths, flowers, and music.
Me and Miss Bowling (Lindsey) resting after the race.

Mrs. Shelley and Mrs. Olinger after they crossed the finish line.
We had a fabulous time, but it is way too soon for me to say if I will ever do this particular 1/2 marathon again!

Thursday and Friday

Thursday and Friday we spent time reading one of my favorite books that goes along perfectly with our continent and ocean study. Mrs. Sikes invited us over to listen to the story as she put the pictures up on her Elmo.
After listening to the story on Thursday, we made good ole Chester on Friday.
The students worked hard to create their own pig to look like Chester.

They are hanging up in the hall, so come check them out!

More Map Skills

We continued to work on map skills today at school. Our main focus today was practicing using a a "scale" for distance.

We whipped out the rulers to help us! After several tries, I think they finally got the hang of it!

A Praying Mantis

On Monday, Adrien showed up with a critter! ....a praying mantis!
Thanks for sharing, Adrien!

Map Skills

This week, we are spending a lot of time working on map skills. They worked hard to figure out how to read a map.

Happy 60th Birthday, Nana!

We gave mom a surprise party at her NEW house this past Sunday! David and I were in charge of keeping her out of the house after church until 1:00. When we arrived at her house, her sweet friends were there to greet her!

Shelley Webster bought the cake! Isn't it adorable? It was so yummy!

My sister, my brother, and I gave mom two Japanese Maples to plant in her front yard of her new house.
She was totally surprised!!! Happy 60th Birthday, Nana!

What?

I could not believe that I finally got 1st place in my age group in a race and I did not even get a medal! Yes, I got a gift certificate to Fleet Feet, but I need some hardware to remember this moment! Sweet David went straight to Hobby Lobby after the race and created a medal for each one of us that placed in Rib Run!
Isn't this adorable!!! It is now hanging with the rest of our medals!

Rib Run 5K

Mrs. Coon decided to run a 5K at Riverfest this past Saturday. I was really nervous because short races make me so nervous. I like long and steady races much better. Megan Miller, Me, and Shelley Webster
My daddy and Sam, my nephew, going to pick out a spot to watch the race.
On your mark, get set, GO!!! David and Shawn in front!
