Brooke Hill 5K

On Saturday morning, I got up at 4:30 to run 10 miles with some friends. When we were done, we headed downtown to watch Mr. David run a 5K. Here he is at the start line!
His brother and sister-in-law ran it, too!
They are off!!!!

Smith ran with him to the finish line! He ran 3.2 miles inn 20 1/2 minutes. He was trying to beat his personal record of 20:02, but oh well!

David finished 6th overall. There were over 250 runners! Yeah!!!!!

We have reached the DOUBLE DIGITS!

I left school early on Friday to go visit Patton on his birthday! I ate lunch with him and his friends. His uncle Murray and Aunt Jill from New York suprised him, too! He had no idea they were coming for cupcakes! He was excited his daddy showed up, too!

That night the WHOLE family (17 of us) went to eat Mexican food and then celebrated with cake and ice cream at his Nana's house. He already had his "friend" party before school started back.

Nana bought him a cake and let him decorate it with GI JOE action figures!

Patton had a great birthday! His mommy cannot believe she has a 10 year old! WOW, time flies!!!

I had to share....

Since we are studying raccoons during workshop, I could not resist getting raccoons put on my toes yesterday when I was getting a pedicure! Yes, my husband thinks I am so strange!!!!

Language Test Tomorrow!

Please encourage your child to look over UNIT 1 in his/her English book tonight. I think I failed to mention on the newsletter that they are being tested on this unit tomorrow. It will cover capitalization, ending marks, types of sentences, correcting run-on sentences, subjects, and predicates. Today they spent lots of time reviewing for the test with Mrs. Landers! This should be a review from second grade! They will do fine!!

Science: Plants

Hip Hip Hooray! Our plants are growing!!! Today was their science test on labeling a plant and a seed! I am sure they did GRRREAT!

Raccoons: GET IT, COON!!!!!

This week during workshop, the children are studying raccoons. They are writing jokes about raccoons, listing words that begin with RA-, reading informational texts, making fingerprint raccoons, and much more.

I hope they are enjoying it!!

I'm Out!!!

I am out of the classroom until Thursday! I am on the DIBELS team. Yes, I am the one who reads with your child to see how many words he/she can read in a minute. I am in the building and check on them often. Mrs. Debbie Landers is taking good care of them while I am out. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

They worked so hard.
Mrs. Pat and James were partners. They made a great team!

Science: Observing a Bean Seed

Each child had a dry lima bean to observe today. They used their magnify glasses to determine its color, shape, texture, and size. Then, they used their noses to determine its odor.

They recorded their responses in their Science Notebooks. Tomorrow we will observe our lima beans after they have soaked in a cup of water all night. Will they change???
I think I have a bunch of scientists this year! They did a great JOB!!

Math: Place Value

We worked on place value this morning in third grade. We talked about how a digit can change values based on its place in a number. For example, a 7 could be 7000, 700, 70, etc. Each child had three number cards. We worked on making the smallest and largest numbers possible with those 3 cards. For example, If I had 4, 3, and 0, my largest number would be 430 while my smallest number would be 34. Wesley is checking to see who had the largest number, him or Cole????
They did very well with this activity.

Workshop is in Full SWING!
