Identifying our Unknown Powders

Wow!! My class is silent as they are working hard to identify the five powders we have been testing this week.


They are using their notes to help them. We talked about being good note-takers!!!


They are working so hard!

Candy Corn Contest

We have had our own "candy corn contest" going on in our classroom during the past two weeks as we have read The Candy Corn Contest. Every time a child got a credit for good behavior, he/she got to take a guess.



Stosh was the winner! His guess was closest to the exact amount. He was off 104 candy corns. Good job, Mr. Minkinow!

The Vinegar Test,


The Iodine Test, and


The Red Cabbage Test!


Ask your child what he/she observed today!


Tomorrow is the HEAT test.

Patton and my precious niece, Callie, are participating in the National Junior League Cotillion. They are learning manners, etiquette, dancing, etc. They both look so grown up! Sniff! Sniff! Sorry, but I had to share this precious picture of them after Monday's class.

Chemical Testing

This week the whole third grade is participating in a week long study of chemical testing.


Each group has been presented five unknown powders that they are performing tests on to help them identify the powders.


Today, the children performed the water test, water mixture test, and the filtration test.
Ask your child to tell you the difference between a suspension and a solution.


They worked diligently with their groups.


By Friday, the students will use all their test results to identify the unknown powders.



Tomorrow we will perform the vinegar test, the iodine test, and the red cabbage test.

Candy Corn Contest

We are deep into The Candy Corn Contest. Hopefully, we will finish up by Friday.


I modeled for the children what I expect from them when it comes to answering the questions about each chapter.

Play Practice

Happy Birthday

Today was our sweet custodian's, Mr. Joe's, birthday.


The whole third grade made him a card and sang happy birthday to him at lunch!

I Survived another 26.2 miles!

We enjoyed a fun night in Chattanooga eating and watching football!



My running buddies: Jennifer, Tracy, Megan, and Barbara.

Whew.......that is done! We enjoyed chilling out in the beautiful sunshine!

Barbara ran the half marathon. She was at the finish line cheering for me!

Finally, number 10 is done!!! I am ready for number 11!
