The Winner is......

THE BOYS!!!!!

The score to the no talking contest was....

Girls:  100
Boys: 152

We have been reading the book NO TALKING with our IB Unit, Express Yourself.  Through this book the children quickly realized their other ways to communicate besides just verbally.

For 3 hours yesterday, the boys and girls could not talk.  However, if they had to say something, they only could say it in 3 words.  Every word over 3 gave their opponent that many points.  They could use hand gestures, facial expressions, post-it notes (which were all over my room), etc.  Needless to say, this was a HARD game for 2nd graders who LOVE to talk.  The poor team captains were worn out keeping track of the score.  However, they had a blast!

Did you ask your child about it!!

Verbs

Today we talked about verbs.

We were even Verb Detectives this morning. The boys and girls watched each other and recorded the action verb that described each other. Example: reading, writing, sitting, blinking, drinking, etc.

LOOK WHAT WE HAVE!!!

IPODS are in their hands, FINALLY!!
In their DOG books tonight, there are rules and procedures for your child to review with you tonight at home.  If you have a case that would fit the GENERATION 4 ITouch, please send it in for your child to use this year.  I only have 2 cases.

FOLKTALES

We compared the Fables and Folktales today.  To get the point across how folktales are tales that have been passed down from generation to generation and can have many different versions of it, we played the telephone game!  Talk about a FUN time!  They had a blast.

I started the chain by whispering a statement in a student's ear.  That student then took what I said and whispered it to the next student.  We continued this pattern until it reached the last student.  Needless to say, the statement was totally twisted by the time it got to the last person.
Ask your child about it!  They were all smiles!!

Number one rule was that you could not repeat yourself.

We just might have to play again tomorrow.

Daily 5: Read to Someone

As a class, we decide what our new Daily 5 station, READ TO SOMEONE, should look like.

They did GREAT!!!  They made it for 4 minutes without any distractions.  We hope to make 6 minutes tomorrow.

We have built a stamina of 12 minutes in READ TO SELF!

Spelling

Spelling our spelling words with Play-Do!

Our First Writing Project

We read this entertaining book together.  After laughing our heads off, we brainstormed (prewriting) a list of some of our favorite foods to eat.
The boys and girls took their graphic organizers home and wrote a rough draft.
After editing our rough drafts, the students worked so hard on their final drafts.

We even made ourselves look like we had a bad case of stripes.

Our FINAL product!!
