Peace, Love, and Hills!

Well, we survived the Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon in Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tennessee! We got tye-dyed shirts, too!

Here we are before the race! We had no clue what we were getting ourselves into!!

We were all smiles at the start! That changed pretty quickly! Hee-Hee!

It was a gorgeous course even though it was so brutal!

It was an adventure! One of our inclines was 3.2 miles long. The elevation went from 0 to 3500 feet OUCH!!!!

Even though it was painful, we met some really nice people! We had a good time!

Celebrating Thanksgiving

The boys and girls had a wonderful time last Friday celebrating Thanksgiving at JHES. They came into the classroom ready to work on a Thanksgiving packet (see above) while our breakFEAST was being set-up by our moms and dads! After we ate our yummy food, we spent the rest of the day watching Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving and Sarah, Plain and Tall!

We have so much to be THANKFUL FOR!!!!!

My next adventure!

I will be running my 8th marathon this Sunday morning right outside Nashville, Tennessee. I will be running The Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey with Mr. David, my brother, Shawn, and my running buddy, Megan Miller. We are not looking for a PR (personal record) due to the 3500 ft. elevation change that will occur during our run. We just want to FINISH ALIVE!!! We are just hoping to enjoy ourselves and have a good time!

Check out this marathon's website. It is quite interesting. This marathon filled up in 32 minutes after opening up for online registration. Why? I am not sure after reading more about it! This will be the smallest marathon I have participated in so far. It shall be interesting!

Happy Thanksgiving

We will spend a lot of time this week reading some Thanksgiving stories and doing some Thanksgiving activities. This is my favorite time of year because we have so much to be THANKFUL for!

Telling Time

We started working on telling time today at school! Okay, Moms and Dads, we need practice! Oh my, oh my, oh my! We had a little difficulty just telling time to the 1/2 hour and 1/4 hour. I can tell that most of them are use to reading a digital clock and not an analog clock!!! PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE! This is a great book that we will be reading tomorrow to help us practice telling time!
The children will get lots of practice on just reading a clock this week before we move on to elapse time after Thanksgiving.

This Week's Story......

Our selection this week is realistic fiction with expository text! The children are learning lots of interesting facts about the dollar bill! Our comprehension skill focuses on sequencing. We will be working on sequencing events that happen in the text.
Here is our vocabulary words for the week. This test is on Thursday!!!

Today, we did listened to our story for entertainment.

Tomorrow, we will start breaking it down!

Please encourage your child to reread this story at home this week. There is a lot of information he/she will be responsible for on the test.

I MADE IT!

Friday after school, I had to drop Patton off at the church to prepare to go to Nashville for the the weekend. This was his first time to go away without one of us. I was a nervous wreck!! As soon as we got there, he stole my camera and starting taking pictures of the bus! He loved it!

This is Patton with his chaperone, Dusty Higdon! They were two peas in a pod! Both have a little OCD when it comes to their hair! Hee-hee!

The gang before they headed out! Patton got a little teary eyed before loading the bus. He said he was just a little nervous, but he wanted to do it! Ugh....it about killed me! I just wanted him to jump back in the car with me, but now I am glad he did not! He had a wonderful time!

They did lots of fun things in 2 days: Mini Bowling, Ronald McDonald House, Cool Springs Mall, Laser Tag, Church, and more!!!

Who Knew We Had A Veteran in Our 3rd Grade Commons?

On Wednesday, Mr. Goff, our custodian shared with us some stories about when he fought in war. He brought some prettyneat stuff to share with us.They were so good as he shared with them. I was very proud of the questions they asked.

This Week!

Tomorrow is our math test on subtracting and adding larger numbers. There will be 33 problems on this test! The boys and girls checked each other's papers today after we practiced for tomorrow's test.

Here is a list of this week's vocabulary words. However, I added one more word, barter, because it is an important word in this week's story!

This week's selection is full of important facts. It is an expository text that will hopefully teach us some new information. This reading/vocabulary test is on Friday.

We have read chapter 1-4 in Sarah, Plain and Tall. By Friday, each child should have reread these chapters and have answered all the questions (in complete sentences) on the first page of his/her packet.

They really seem to be enjoying this book! It is one of my all-time favorites!

A Special Day

I had the honor of attending Parkview Baptist Church today to watch a special family dedicate their precious baby! Paige Dorr is my running buddy (maybe I should say running idol) and dear friend. A little less than 5 months ago, her family was blessed with the adoption of Emma Kate! What a blessing she has been to this family! She is so loved by her mommy, daddy (Eric), and big sister (Hannah Grace). Today's service was extra special because it was Orphan Sunday! It was a heart-warming service listening to Paige and Eric give their testimonies. God is so GOOD!
