Multiplication
Please make sure you are studying those multiplication facts. Our next timed test is on Thursday. It will cover our 0,1,2,3,4,5,6, 9, 10, and 11's!!!
There are some great multiplication sites online!!
Chilling out after the marathon....
Mrs. Coon and her buddies out in New Orleans! We took a stroll down Bourbon Street!
We enjoyed a yummy cajun dinner at Oceana's.
Dave and I are smiling because we can finally relax!
Megan and Bobby (my cell phone doesn't take good pictures in dark places)
My brother, Shawn, giving his wife, Cheryl, a kiss since she didn't travel with us! She stayed home with their kiddos.

We had a fabulous weekend! There is nothing like spending time with family and good friends!!!
New Orleans Marathon
David and I finished the New Orleans marathon this weekend. It was my 9th marathon and David's 7th marathon.
When we got to New Orleans, after a 6 1/2 hour drive, we ran into this booth at the expo that had 2 former Biggest Loser contestants.
They looked great!
Mrs. Coon being silly! I told Mr. David that I thought I could beat these two people in the race.
David and I hanging out at the expo.
My brother, Shawn, pinning on his race number the night before the race. We always laugh at him before every race because he freaks out about his race number being perfectly centered on his shirt.
The gang from Decatur after the race.
After the race, we enjoyed just sitting around! The music and sunshine made a perfect ending to a wonderful race.
Jackie, Megan, and I all bundled up before the race. It was quite chilly at the start line. Being a little nervous didn't help either.
Me and my boys after it was all done!!!

It was a wonderful race!!! I completed this marathon in 4 hours and 2 minutes. My goal was 4 hours flat. However, I still got a personal record. The last marathon I ran, I completed it in 4 hours and 12 minutes. I pushed myself and did all that I could do, so I am very happy with my time. I will just have to train a little harder for my marathon in April!

Mrs. Landers will be in charge of my class Friday and Monday! However, since we were out today, I am going to go by school for about two hours in the morning to catch the kiddos up on some things. I also want to tell them bye since I will be traveling over the weekend!!
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and a HAPPY VALENTINE's DAY!!!

Those 9's can stump you!!!
Keep up the good work and study!!!!
Geometry
The boys and girls are doing great with geometry! I keep trying to stress to them, if they learn the vocabulary of geometry, they will do great!!! Please encourage your child to review these terms nightly.
Next week, we will take a break from geometry and focus on our 3, 4, and 6's in multiplication. The following week, we will be learning a lot more vocabulary words when we start learning about polygons, triangles, and angles.

Our New Unit in IMAGINE IT!
More Earth Materials
This week we spent time observing different kinds of rocks.
To figure out what kind of minerals are in of them, we preformed a vinegar test (a weak acid).
We know that Calcite (a mineral) reacts to vinegar by bubbling and fizzing! Therefore, we were testing each one of our rocks (Sandstone, Basalt, Marble, and Limestone) by pouring vinegar on them. If our rock responded to the vinegar, we then assumed it had Calcite in it.

Geometry
We started our Geometry Unit with a little sorting activity yesterday.
The children were given 12 solid figures. They had to come up with a way to sort them into two groups. The only rule was that every solid figure had to belong to a group.
One group sorted them by roll vs. cannot roll.

Observing Crystals
On Friday of last week, we poured the liquid from our vials that sat over night into evaporation dishes to see if we could find any other ingredients in our mock rocks that are not visible to the eye. Through evaporation we were hoping to discover the other ingredients.
Monday, the children were so excited to find CRYSTALS!!!
Using a crystal identification sheet, the children were able to figure out what other ingredients were in our mock rocks.

Ingredients of our mock rocks: red and green gravel (pretend minerals), oyster shells (pretend minerals), alum, epsom salt, flour, and sand!
