Spelling Bee Winners

Congratulations, Gracie and Adrien, for winning our class spelling bee! Way to go!!! The school-wide spelling bee will be in January!

Good Job, Smitty!

On Tuesday, my sweet boy, was awarded Student of the Month. He won for his class and then overall for third grade at Leon Sheffield. This month's category was INDEPENDENCE!

Korean Money

Since we are studying money in reading and social studies, William brought some money from Korea to share with the class! He really got the kiddos' attention!

THANKS, WILLIAM!! That was interesting!!!

Lemons and Lemonade

We are reading "Lemons and Lemonade" this week. It is a story on supply and demand. It is a story full of information!
The students got to describe a business he/she would like to have. They had to explain to me how they would get this business started. I told them I expected them to use some of their vocabulary words when they were writing about it.
They used "Lemons and Lemonade" as a resource.

THIS TEST IS FRIDAY! HINT: There are a lot of open-ended questions to this test. Through our reading unit on money and our social studies lessons, the students should have a pretty good understanding on how a business works.

Student of the Month: Initiative

Zoie is our STUDENT OF THE MONTH! She got it for her initiative in class. Zoie is always willing to jump right in there no matter what we are doing at school!
WAY TO GO!!!

Sarah, Plain and Tall

Look what sweet Ethan brought to school on Monday to share with us! Yes, they are replicas from Sarah, Plain and Tall . What a treat!!!
This is the house where Caleb, Anna, Papa, and Sarah live.

This is the train station where Papa picked up Sarah when she came from Maine.

The boys and girls were so interested! Thanks, ETHAN (and grandmother)! We are glad you had these to share with us.
We have been reading Skylark this week! We will be watching the movie in class on Friday.

BLACK FRIDAY!

The day after Thanksgiving, Mrs. Coon got up at 3:00 to be at Target at 4:00 with my sister-in-law, Cheryl, niece, Jordan, and my buddy, Barbara! It was pouring down rain and freezing! We were not out to get any BIG items! We just wanted to be part of the craziness! It was fun! We HIT Starbucks not just once, but TWICE! After shopping, we loaded up and went to my sister's house to watch the BIG GAME!!!
My brother, Shawn, and Cheryl smiling when Alabama was ahead! They were not smiling like this later that evening.

Penny and I getting some Mitsy love during halftime!

Stephen, my sister's husband, apparently had an issue with a call! Poor daddy, he just sat in the recliner quietly.
Penny hanging out with Molly and Mitsy by the fire outside.

We had a television outside, too! You can tell my brother's mood has totally changed!

Smitty eating some yummy "game day" food!

Patton loved getting to watch the game outside!
It was a long day!!! Oh yeah, we even squeezed in Christmas pictures between shopping in Decatur, shopping in Huntsville, and watching the game!!!!

It is a tradition in the Coon house to decorate our tree on Thanksgiving night!I usually just sit on the couch and watch the boys decorate the tree. I love just taking it all in!

Thanksgiving Morning

Shelley Webster's husband, Mr. Web, came over early Thursday morning to help us fry some turkeys for Thanksgiving dinner! We did one for an appetizer, courtesy of Web, and then 3 others!
When I walked downstairs, I saw Mr. Web doing all this! I thought he was perfoming surgery or something?
It was a gorgeous day for turkey frying!
They tasted so, so good!
Thank you, Mr. Web, for your expertise!

A Surprise!

It is an ongoing joke with my grade level that the "rocket" thing gets on my nerves. Yes, I know we are the Challengers at JHES, but does everything have to have a rocket it on it! Well, my co-workers, especially Mr. Thomas, want to put a rocket on everything (notes to parents, t-shirts, etc.) just to get on my nerves. Therefore, they threw me a ROCKET party for my birthday! I had a Toy Story plates and a rocket cake made by Mrs. Sikes!
I have to admit it was pretty cute! It was also pretty yummy!

I laughed at the comments those crazy co-workers made in my birthday card!

I work with an awesome bunch of people!! Thank you, TEAM! You guys are the best!!!
