I just wanted to say I am sorry for not posting for so long!!! Time has just gotten away from me lately. I have had trouble keeping my head above water the past couple of weeks! Finally, things will start to slow down as soon as Thursday (Parenting Day) and Friday (Field Trip) come and go!

American Symbols
We have spent this week studying American Symbols and what they stand for!
The boys and girls have used class time to do their research. They have used books and the internet to come up with 5 facts about each one of our symbols.
The symbols we have been researching are the Flag, the Liberty Bell, the Capitol Building, the Bald Eagle,The Star Spangled Banner, and the Statue of Liberty.
They have really taken pride into this project!

Tomorrow we will finish up with our book study on The Candy Corn Contest.
During the past two weeks, we have been reading this book chapter by chapter.
While we read this book, we stopped after each chapter to answer questions and/or complete an activity related to the book.
I would read a chapter to them every other day. Other days, the boys and girls took turns reading to one another.
Then, there were days they were expected to read independently.
Their envelopes with their questions/answers and activities are due on Monday!

Investigate A State Projects
We have spent a lot of time the past two weeks familiarizing (Is that a word?) ourselves with the United States of America. The children have particpated in several activities that have required them to locate certain states and their capitals on a map.
Way to go on the projects! Everyone did a fabulous job! I enjoyed hearing each of them share his/her state with the class. Come check them out! They are hanging up in the hall!

Prayers Needed
Please pray for my dad today as he has a very important doctor's appointment at 8:30. For those of you who do not know, he has been fighting head and neck cancer for the past two years. For an update please read my sister's blog. There is a link on the sidebar of this post. Thank you!

Heads UP!
I forgot to mention in my newsletter that we will have our Chapter 2 Math TEST on Wednesday, October 13! I will be sending home the study guide and their math books on Friday since we have a long weekend. If this study guide is turned into me on Wednesday, October 13, your child will receive 5 BONUS points on his/her math test.

Smitty Got His Braces
We spent Tuesday morning at Dr. Sample's office getting Smith's braces put on. He did awesome! He only has to wear them on the top, but he has an expander on top, too. I have the pleasure of cranking this expander every night for 15 days.
This picture is going to be used for blackmail! Hee-Hee!
Since he got his braces and expander all on the same day, he did not get his wires. They will put the wires in on our next visit. They said it would be too much too soon!
He loves them even though he can't eat, can't talk clearly, and smacks constantly!

Investigate a State Project Due Next Thursday!

Today, your child brought home instructions for his/her next project. Please review the packet and let me know if you have any questions.
We will be studying map skills this week that focus on the fifty states, their capitals, and their borders.
Unit 5 Test is Thursday!
Study for our VERB test on Thursday: past, present, irregular verbs, helping verbs, BE verbs, and contractions!
This test will be multiple-choice! A study guide will come home on Wednesday. If this study guide is completed, he/she will receive 5 bonus points on his/her test!
Mrs. Buckner will be in charge!
I will not be at school tomorrow. Smith is getting braces and an expander tomorrow at 9:40. Pam Buckner will be my substitute for the day. She will do great with the kids. Their day will continue as normal even though I am not there. If you need anything, please do not hesitate to email me. I will have my phone with me all day.
