Third Day in Third Grade

On the 3rd day of 3rd grade, we stayed busy. First the boys and girls worked on this packet that consisted of lots of activities that revolved around the number 3. Next, the boys and girls went on a classmate scavenger hunt.
They went around the room and pretty much interviewed each other. For example, "Is your birthday in September? Does your family have a blue car? Can you play the piano?"

Lastly, we read Chrysanthemum.

Ask your child about this book? It is so good!

After reading this story about Chrysanthemum having 13 letters in her name, the students put together unfix cubes according to number of letters in their names.

After they put their cubes together, they put a sticker on each cube with the letters of their names.

We lined them up to see who had the most letters in their name (Reese Anne) and the least number of letters in their name (Eli). Then we discovered that 7 letters in a name was the most common in our classroom.

The boys put all their cubes together to see how many letters were in all their names together (54 letters).

The girls did the same. We discovered that the girls have 59 letters in all their names.

We put them all together and discovered that our class has 113 letters in all.

Second Day

We spent our second day of third grade "getting to know" each other. The boys and girls worked on some posters titled, "All About Me."

They did such a wonderful job on these!

They are finally hanging out in the hall.

Also today the boys and girls spent time decorating their wallets for our class store.

After the boys and girls go to the bank each Monday, they will keep their cash in their wallets.

Lastly, the boys and girls had to write me two facts that were true about themselves then one fact that was false. All facts were to be believable so we would be confused. Here Jonah said he could put his foot behind his head. We thought that was his false fact. As you can see, we were wrong. AMAZING!

We had a wonderful second day of school!

First Day

We had a great first day We went over policies and procedures, put together our BEE Books, got acquainted with Bell Work, and participated in some "getting to know you" activities! Here the students are organizing their Bee Books.
Garrett is telling us a little about himself during our M&M activity.

The students were placing their BELL WORK folders in their mailboxes so they will not forget to take them home at the end of the day!!


We GOT a lot accomplished today. It is going to be a great year!!

Getting to Know You Activity

Today I gave each child 7 M&M's. For each color they had, they had to tell the class something about them.
Here are Eli's 7 M&M's. He had to tell us 3 things he liked about school, 1 thing he likes to do, one of his favorite books, one place he likes to visit, and then one of his favorite television shows.

Here are the students in deep thought. They had to plan what they were going to share according to their colors.

First Day of School

Parent Orientation

I enjoyed meeting some of my parents and students last Thursday night at our parent orientation.
If you have not been by our classroom, I invite you stop by to sign a few forms and check out my wish list.

Please try to return the parent folder with all the forms filled out by Friday! Thanks for your promptness.

Team Building Workshop at JHES!

A Scavenger Hunt Mr. Kimbrell divided us up into teams and sent our faculty on a hunt. One stop was at Parkway Medical Center, our partner in education, to have our picture made with a staff member while holding a sign that says "Julian Harris Loves Our Parnter!"
We had to find a store where the store manager was present. We lucked up at NAFECO.

We had to find a statue, so went to the jail.

One stop had to be a body of water other than a swimming pool, lake, or pond. We drove down to the river.

Lastly, we had to go to a community service location. Here we are at the fire station.

Our team, Mrs. Etheridge, Mrs. Wimberly, Mrs. Edney, and me, came in 3rd place out of 6 teams. Even though we did not win, we had a BLAST!!!!

Smith Turned 9!

We celebrated Smith's 9th birthday at the Decatur Country Club Golf Course. My sister, Michelle Puryear, and her husband, Stephen Puryear, did the whole party! Stephen is a golf pro so he did some of his summer camp activities with Smith and his buddies. My sister did the rest: invitations, party favors, table decorations, etc. Isn't this a handsome group of boys?

I AM BACK!!!

I have been a slacker this summer, and I am so sorry! I spent this afternoon and evening catching up! The Coon family has been busy and time has just gotten away from me. I am going to try to do much better. I will be working in my classroom this week, so be looking for classroom pictures soon. I hope you are having a great summer!!!
