Inside Picnic Lunch

To celebrate the end of testing, we had planned to have a third grade kickball tournament and a picnic outside today! Well, the wet and cold weather messed up those plans!!Plan B was to have an inside picnic in the commons area instead! They enjoyed getting to sit on the floor with the other third grade classes.
Even though we could not be outside, it was something different so they still had fun.
They could have really used some outside time to run off some energy after sitting all week!

MY Student of the Month!

I wasn't at school this morning because I went to Leon Sheffield to watch Patton receive his Student of the Month Award. Proud Grandparents!
Here they are......All the fifth grade winners!
Mrs. Poovey presenting the awards.
This month's category was LEADERSHIP!! Way to go, Patton! We are so proud of you!

Our Student of the Month

Congrats, Madeline!!!

This Week's Testing Treats/Incentives

On Monday, the children walked into the room and found SMARTIES with a label that said, "You are a bunch of SMARTIES!" On Tuesday, the children were excited about finding Gushers on their desks. The label said, "You are GUSHING with Knowledge!"
On Wednesday, our last day of testing, the children went crazy when they saw these STARBURSTS! They had a label that said, "A BURST of energy to do your best!"

NEXT WEEK

SAT TESTING:
Monday - OLSAT and Word Study
Tuesday-Reading
Wednesday-Math
After testing on Monday, we will spend the afternoon playing board games.
Tuesday after testing, the children can play with electronics brought from home (IPOD touches, Nintendo DS, PSP, etc.).
THERE WILL BE NO HOMEWORK or TESTS THIS WEEK!!

Testing Has BEGUN!!!

Thanks to my wonderful parents, I was able to have testing incentives on the students' desks each morning when they came into the classroom last week. On Tuesday for the ARMT Reading, they had each had a bag of Cheerios on his/her desk with a label that said, "I am CHEERing you on!!"
For the ARMT Math test, the students had a bag of Lucky Charms at their desks with a label that said, "Good 'LUCK' on your test today!"

Ummm......I wonder what will be on their desks next week for the SAT!

Violin Recital

The boys and girls had a wonderful time performing for our parents. Mr. Frank came to Julian Harris 2 days a week for 5 weeks to teach the students how to play the violin. He is one amazing instructor!!
It is amazing what he can teach them to do!
The best part during the recital was when Mr. Frank let them go out into to the audience and play for their guests.
Timothy and Daveon played for me!
Timothy was all SMILES!
Zoie playing for her dad.
Ashley performing for her mom.

The violin comes in all different sizes.

The sound was beautiful!!! Way to go, COONDOGS!!!!

FRACTIONS

Oh my! Oh my! Fractions about put us over the edge today! We spent over 2 hours today trying to grasp the concept of equivalent fractions. Trying to compare and order fractions was also quite bumpy. Woo......we were tired!!! I have sent home a packet on fractions with each child to work on through the week at home. If he/she returns it to me on Friday, he/she will receive 10 BONUS points on his/her lowest grade in math during this last nine weeks.
Let me know if you have any questions!!!

ARMT Practice

We spent a lot of time today working on open-ended ARMT questions. Today's focus was patterns.

They worked really hard!

My 12 Hour Run

My BIGGEST fan, Adrien! I have never been so happy to see a familiar face after 10 hours of running/walking. He even brought me my favorite drink, Diet Mountain Dew! I thoroughly enjoyed the lap (one mile) he took with me! Thank you, Adrien for the support!!
This is why I ran 12 hours!!! This race benefitted the Centers for Developmentally Disabled-North Alabama! Do you see the smiles on these ladies' faces? The pain was so worth it!!!

Here we are! Us three girls tackled this adventure: Megan Miller, Jennifer Blevins, and me!
Tracy Harris and Paige Dorr (not pictured) came out early that morning and ran awhile with us! It really helped the time go by!
This is a picture of us completing our first mile!!! Woo-hoo!!!
Around 11:00, I had already changed clothes and had to put on a knee brace. Shawn's (my brother) family came out to cheer us on. His son Sam took a lap with us. His precious daughter, Penny, took a lap with me! She made it one fun lap!!!
Shawn taking a break! This is after he completed 31 miles! Yes, that is a 50K!!!
Here I am taking a lap (one lap = 1 mile).
Megan and Jennifer walking! We could not believe the weather! It was gorgeous! However, since we have not been use to the warm temps and sunshine, we all got sunburned!!!
Go, Bro, Go! He is looking strong!
David did awesome! He completed a total of 50 miles!
Patton came out while Smith went to baseball practice. He ran 2 laps! Here Patton and Jennifer are resting for a little while! Patton took one more lap before heading back home!
Sam was back from his baseball practice just in time to run in with his daddy on his 40th mile!! Way to go, SMITTY!
Shawn decided to stop there and go eat some wings!!! Hee-hee!
I decided to give it my all on my last mile for the day! Sweet Dr. Reynolds paced me in!
I DID IT!!! I completed 45 miles!!!
These are the two guys that put this amazing race on, Jon Elmore and Eric Schotz! They did a wonderful job!!
Jamie Donaldson ran 78 miles during the 12 hour run. She came in second place. She held the record for this race until this year! However, she completed the same amount miles she did the last time she ran Delano 12 Hour. She is from Littleton, Colorado. She is a middle school math teacher! You should read about her at altitudeultrarunner.blogspt.com. She is an amazing athlete!
Here he is, Drew Burnett! He completed 82 miles and now holds the record for the Delano 12 Hour Run! He was truly amazing to watch.
It was a painful day, but GREAT! I am so happy that I did it!!!
