Spring Break 2009

I hope each one of you had a wonderful spring break! I had a wonderful week running, relaxing, and spending time with family and friends. Here is a list of what I did each day. I cannot wait to hear what you did.

Sunday, March 22: My family went to early service at church and then I met my 11th grade girls at the Cracker Barrell for breakfast. Then, I went to work at Gloria's from 1-5. The boys spent the afternoon playing outside while Mr. David worked in the yard.

Saturday, March 21: First, I ran 6 miles with my brother at Delano Park. Then, we just hung out around the house. Smith had ball practice at 3:00 until 5:00. After practice, went to O'Charley's with Mr. David's parents.

Friday, March 20: First, I ran 5 miles while everyone was still sleeping. Then, the boys and I laid around in our PJ's until after lunch. Mr. David took the afternoon off, so we went to Huntsville shopping for the afternoon. We went and bought Easter outfits for Patton and Smith. When we got home, we went and ate mexican food with my brother's family.

Thursday, March 19: I ran 22 miles. I started at 4:45 in the morning. I got home a little after 8:00. After I finished running, I spent a lot of time resting on the couch. The boys played outside pretty much all day. I was so worn out! Smith had ball practice at 5:30.

Wednesday, March 18: I ran 9 miles with my brother. Then, we met up with family and friends and headed to Birmingham to the zoo. Here are some pictures of our wonderful day!

Tuesday, March 17: Happy St. Patrick's Day! We never left the house today. I only left to run 10 miles while everyone was still in bed. I spent the day cleaning out the boys' closets. I moved their winter clothes out and moved their spring/summer clothes in! Did you wear your green today?

Monday, March 16: First, I ran 8 miles while everyone was sleeping. When the boys got up, we headed to Target and Old Navy to shop for some spring/summer clothes for them. They had a great time picking things out and trying them on in the dressing room. We spent the afternoon at home enjoying being out of school.

Sunday, March 15: We went to early church, and then I had to work at Gloria's Good Health from 1-5. The boys spent the afternoon hanging out Mr. David.

Saturday, March 14: I ran in the pouring down rain at the DELANO 12 Hour Run. David and I ran 15 miles and then helped out at the race. Some people actually ran for 12 hours straight.

Not only was I soaked, but I was so muddy! I had to run through mud puddles and lots of standing water! My shoes will never be the same.

Yes, this is another part of the trail I ran through 15 times! It was a kid's dream-to play in the rain and the mud! Smith and Patton were so jealous!

My running buddy, Paige, had the honor of pacing Jamie Donaldson from Littleton, Colorado. She is the #2 ranked female ultra-marathoner in the United States. Paige ran with her for 27 laps which is 27 miles. Jamie Donaldson ran a total of 78 laps (miles) in 12 hours.

It was a wonderful week!

Patton's DEBUT

We spent the weekend at the Princess Theater because Patton was a towns person and an Oompa Loompa in Willy Wonka Jr. presented by Leon Sheffield Elementary. Friday night, Mr. David and I worked up in the "GREEN Room" with 150 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. We were in charge of helping them with their costume change and lining them up for going on stage. The hardest part was keeping them quiet. Poor Mr. David, he could never make it as a teacher! He was TOTALLY stressed out!

This is Patton's cousin, Callie. She is the one with green hair. They are are in the same class at Leon Sheffield.

Patton was so excited about getting his picure made with Willy Wonka, Drew Bedsole. This is a big deal because Drew is a FIFTH GRADER!!!!

The boys and girls did an amazing job! They worked really hard on this production! I was so proud of them!

Read-In

To celebrate Read Across America, we had a read-in. Not only did we read, but we worked on a fun activity packet about Dr. Seuss.

You can see they covered every spot of our classroom!

This is the scene at my house!

This morning, Smith woke up with a 103 fever. After going to school and finding a substitute (or substitutes), I took Smith to the doctor. He tested positive for the FLU! YUCK! This is what he has done most of the day. Of couse, baby LULU (our Boston Terrier) has not left his side. It is funny how they know when someone is sick. We are hoping we caught it early, and he will make a speedy recovery! Please pray that the rest of us do not get it! I know your wondering if we took flu shots--NO, we didn't! OOPS!

SNOW!!!

The best part of this weekend was the beautiful, white snow! The boys got up 6:00 AM to play in it before church. This is what they saw when our garage door went up!!! WOW!!!!!
It started snowing on us on our way home from Nashville Saturday night. It was coming down like a blizzard around 8:30 PM in Tennessee!

We had to pull over at a gas station and let them boys get out and play in it!

It was so pretty! This made a perfect ending to a PERFECT day!

Mystery Trip

This Saturday, we threw the boys in the car and told them we were taking them on a surprise trip. We did not tell them where we were going. They tried to look for clues along the way, but they never figured it out until..... We drove up here in Nashville, Tennessee!
This is one of their favorite places to eat (mine, too).
Our favorite part was the dessert!

Of course the gift shop is always a treat to visit!

We had a wonderful evening just the 4 of us!

In Language....

We have spent a lot of time recently discussing how adding a suffix and/or prefix to a base word changes the meaning of it.

Happy Birthday Brandon!

Guess what? We have a leap year baby in our classroom. That's right, Brandon was born on February 29! On Friday, Brandon's mother brought a big cookie cake to celebrate Brandon's birthday with the class. It was so yummy.
She even brought SURPRISES!!!

We are still working on Geometry

Last week, we worked on sorting solid figures.

This week, we will be focusing on perimeter, area, and volume. I will be sending home a study guide on Thursday because we will have our unit test next Tuesday. Start studying now!
