I am a second grade teacher at Benjamin Davis Elementary in Decatur, Alabama. I love teaching. I also love running. I have run 15 imarathons and 9 half marathons. Mostly, I enjoy spending "quality" time with my family.
Well, tomorrow is it! Can you believe it? I just wanted to thank each and everyone of you for being so supportive this year. It has been a fabulous year, and I owe it all to you and your children! Please keep me updated on your child. Just because he/she is no longer in my room, that does not mean I do not care! I want to know what he/she is doing and achieving, so send me emails and pictures (hcoon1519@charter.net). I hope you have a wonderful and safe summer! I will continue to update the blog this summer with stuff going on in my life! Again, thanks for everything! I will miss you greatly!
We had a great day celebrating the end of school! First, we had a hoedown snack: haystacks, pig-in-the-blankets, and popcorn. Then, we headed outside to play some hoedown games!
We did an egg relay with REAL RAW EGGS!
We also participated in a dress-up relay. The children had to run to the clothes, put them on, run around the cone, take the clothes off, and then head back to tag the next person in line. This was hilarious!
Now, this was a funny site! This was the wheelbarrow relay. You will see we had some cheaters!!
We also did the sack relay. I was pretty impressed with how well they could do this.
Here is my favorite. The children had to try to take a bite of an apple that was hanging from a string. Sounds easy, but you had to keep your hands behind your back!!
It was a fun day! Thanks to all the parents who helped out!
After our AWARD'S CEREMONY in the theater, we had our own little "AWARD'S" in our classroom. I gave each child a piece of candy that describes him/her. The children had a great time trying to guess which candy described who? Emma: The student who always gives EXTRA in everything she does. Logan: Our sports nut!
Kenneth: The student who is always telling jokes.
.Colton: Our class musician
Ben: The student who can tell a whopper of a story!
Will: The student who always "SKORS" good grades!
Austin: The student who is always SOOOOOO good!
Haley: The student who likes to daydream.
Amanda: A student who is magnificent and marvelous!
Shelbie: The student who is always willing to help me out!
Amando: The student who misplaces things often.
Ashlyn: The student who is always part of a group.
Malia: The student who is sweet and sassy.
Savanna: The student who always finishes her work first.
Joshua: The student who is always laughing.
Paige: The student who has needed the most ice packs because she has been injured so much this year.
Preston: The student who gives me the most hugs.
Hannah: The student who always has good and plenty to say!
Today was Award's Day for our third graders! The children were anxious to hear their names called out. Here are our Student Counsel Representatives: Preston Grover. This is a picture of our Spelling Bee participants: Austin Laney and Will Parker.
Here are all the students who had Perfect Attendance: Austin Laney, Colton Sandlin, and Amanda Albrecht. Because I was on stage presenting the A and AB Honor Rolls, I did not get to take a picture!
We had a full holiday weekend. David and I ran the Cotton Row Run 10K on Monday morning in Huntsville. It was hard and hot, but lots of fun! My brother ran the whole thing with me! He ran this course 20 years ago when he was on the Cross Country Team at Decatur High School!
We finished in 52:26. Last year, I completed this course in 54:04. My goal was 51 minutes, but I did the best I could!
Mr. David completed the course in 43:30. This is a personal record for him!!
After the race, we headed to my mother's to celebrate Memorial Day! We swam, ate, ate, ate, and ate some more!
This is me having a blast with my precious neice, Penny!
Here are the cousins minus one! Aren't they a cute group?
On Saturday morning, we headed out to Point Mallard bright and early, but the balloons did not go off! However, the boys had the opportunity to help deflate and pack up the Cook's Pest Control balloon.
This is them deflating the balloon. A picture like this even made the Decatur Daily on Saturday morning.
It was a fun-filled weekend! I hope you had a wonerful one, too!
